Father Anthony Fekry says: “A women’s failure to cover her head imitating men is a declaration that she does not take pride in her gender as a woman.”
He says about shaving a woman’s hair: “It is not acceptable, and if it was ugly for a woman to shave her head, so long hair is her beauty, so let her cover hair.”
He says: “A woman’s hair has been given to her as a natural covering for her head. A woman’s hair is her beauty, so it must be covered when she stands before God” [Explanation of the Old Testament – Antonius Fikri].

Italian researcher Laura Veccia Vaglieri says: “To avoid the temptation to bad behavior and to be taken away from its consequences, a Muslim woman must wear Hijab.“

She should cover her whole body, except for those parts necessary for her free movement, such as the feet and legs. That is not for the lack of respect for women, or suppress of their freedom, but to protect them from the lusts of men.

Allah commanded the woman in the Qur’an to wear Hijab,
Allah says: {do not display yourselves as women did in the days of ˹pre-Islamic˺ ignorance} [Al-Ahzab 33]
Allah also says: {Let them draw their veils over their chests, and not reveal their ˹hidden˺ adornments except to their husbands, their fathers, their fathers-in-law, their sons, their stepsons, their brothers, their brothers’ sons or sisters’ sons, their fellow women, those ˹bondwomen˺ in their possession, male attendants with no desire, or children who are still unaware of women’s nakedness. Let them not stomp their feet, drawing attention to their hidden adornments. Turn to Allah in repentance all together, O believers, so that you may be successful.} [An-Nur 31]
Allah also says: {And when you ˹believers˺ ask his wives for something, ask them from behind a barrier. This is purer for your hearts and theirs} [Al-Ahzab 53]
Prophet Mohammed is reported to say: “When a woman is old enough to menstruate, Asma’, it is not right that any part of her should be seen but this and this, pointing to his face and his hands.”
The Islamic nation has unanimously agreed that Hijab is obligatory. Hijab is well-known as part of the Islamic religion.
Ruling of Niqab for Muslim Women
Hijab is the woman cover for her head and body with a loose and not transparent dress. Scholars agreed that Hijab is obligatory for a woman.
However, there dispute among scholars if covering the face and hands is obligatory as well, which is Niqab. The Hanbali people were of the opinion that the face has most of the beauty of women, and it is obligatory to cover it.
When is a woman obligated to wear hijab?
It is obligatory for every Muslim girl to wear the hijab when she reaches the age of majority. At that time, she will be rewarded for wearing it, and punished for leaving it.
Conditions of the legal Hijab
Islam has defined the characteristics and conditions of the legal Hijab, which are:
- Hijab should cover the whole body, so she is not allowed to uncover anything from her body. As for the face and hands, they are a subject of dispute among scholars.
- Hijab should be loose and wide and not describe the body, so it does not show its shape, size or details.
- Hijab should be thick and not transparent, so that the clothes or body underneath do not appear.
- Hijab should not attract the attention of people.
- Hijab should not be perfumed.
- Hijab should not be decorated in order not to attract the attention of men.
- Hijab should not resemble the clothing of the non-Muslim women.
- Hijab should not resemble men’s clothing.
